Ovation was founded in 1966 by Charles Kaman, the president of a helicopter manufacturing company and a renowned guitarist. The company is beloved by many musicians for its electric acoustic guitars that apply aircraft technology to guitar design.
The Ovation flagship model "Super Adamas 1587-7" with overwhelming presence in both looks and sound has arrived in stock. Manufactured in 1993, with cutaway. The number following 1587 indicates the coloring; this model features the number 7, which represents beige.
The Adamas features a design that greatly overturned the conventional wisdom of acoustic guitars up to that point: a carbon fiber top with a colorfully designed marquetry soundhole (double epaulet leaf hole), a body back created as one piece with Lyrachord, a glass fiber reinforced resin, and a deeply carved headstock, among other features.
Due to its structure, it is highly resistant to feedback and produces a rich and unique acoustic sound unmatched by any other when output to an amplifier.
As understood from the manufacturer's guidance stating "The sound board is the heart of this Adamas. The resulting robust midrange is welcomed by players who must perform without being overpowered by electric guitar, keyboard, and drum sounds," the Adamas series is an electric acoustic that has succeeded in achieving powerful sound unobtainable from wooden top materials.
It establishes both thinness and rigidity, earning the description "like wood, but superior to wood," realizing both powerful bass and brilliant treble. Being non-wooden, it is also resistant to climate and other environmental effects.
A small serial-numbered certificate comes with this guitar, written in English as follows: "The guitar with this certificate is a premium quality product. This certificate is not issued for guitars sold within the United States because their quality is considerably inferior compared to products exported to Japan. This certificate guarantees 'the highest standard of finishing and quality' from the perspectives of 'playing performance, materials, color, vibration measurement, etc.' and further assures that this superior condition will be maintained for many years to come."
Equipped with gold tuning pegs manufactured by Schaller, the preamp features the familiar "OP24." Sound control for stage and line recording is at the player's discretion. The Adamas has considerable recognition in Japan, partly due to the popularity of Yoshi Oizaki, and quickly disappears from the used market whenever it appears. With its hard-edged tone suited for the stage while maintaining substantial richness, it truly lives up to its flagship status.
