The Horace Silver Quintet was a jazz quintet led by pianist and composer Horace Silver, and was a pioneer of funky jazz, producing many hits and an innovative sound.After leaving the Jazz Messengers, this group was active mainly on Blue Note Records and had a major influence on jazz history. Silver's father was from Cape Verde, so the band was known for its unique groove, incorporating elements of Latin and African music. One of their signature songs is "Song for My Father."
