Artist: Lou Donaldson Quintet
This five-piece group was led by alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson, a master of funky jazz and hard bop. The 1957 album "Wailing with Lou" featured Donald Byrd (trumpet), Herman Foster (piano), 'Peck' Morrison (bass), and Art Taylor (drums). From 1952 to the mid-1950s, the group played at Blue Note Records in a variety of formations, including quartets and sextets, and performed with Horace Silver (piano) and Art Blakey (drums), laying the foundations of jazz.
