Fender Japan ST57 1985 Sunburst #JV68240

The "JV serial" refers to serial numbers beginning with the initials "JV" that were assigned to early Fender Japan products manufactured around 1982 to 1984. Manufactured with Fujigen's high technical capabilities of the time, many models of this "Japan Vintage" quality that rivaled or even surpassed authentic USA-made counterparts are now traded at premium prices in today's market.

This time we have received a Fender Japan "STC-57" in stock. It features a neck date of August 5, 1985, and weighs 3.27kg. The neck pocket is marked "STC-57," and the neck bears the "MADE IN JAPAN" marking, making this a JV serial instrument.

Guitars marked "STC-57" are primarily thought to feature a Telecaster headstock, but this one has a standard headstock design. It features an alder body (presumed), maple neck, and maple fretboard. The use of USA-made pickups is also characteristic of models from this period. Based on its appearance, this is likely all original.

The neck grip is somewhat thicker than American Standard or American Professional models, offering a different feel. The 3-way pickup selector is a distinctive feature of this model, with tone controls only on the front and center positions. The appeal of the thick tone produced by stopping the selector midway—the half-tone sound—is also attractive.

Our shop has performed fret deburring and replaced the selector switch. The current playing condition is excellent, making it perfect for players who want to use it actively rather than as a collector's item. As a playable JV serial Stratocaster that can be used in professional settings, we believe this is a wonderful instrument.

This model, with which the craftsmen of Fujigen at that time carefully inherited and accurately reproduced the essence of vintage Fender throughout, is truly an exceptional piece.
