G&L L-1000 1980 (CLF Research)
G&L was founded in 1972 by Leo Fender, the founder of Fender, along with George Fullerton.Today, the factory in Fullerton, California continues to produce what Leo wanted. The workshops have remained intact since the day they died, and are constantly visited by people who love music from around the world.
This time we have arrived the 1980 G&L L-1000, the first masterpiece that brings out the last soul of Leo Fender. The color is natural and weighs approximately 4.15kg.
The serial "B-001625" is engraved on the bridge plate, and the neck pocket has the notation "NOV1980".The numbers are close to "B000518", which is said to be the smallest serial produced in 1980, and this is a rare piece from the first year of the brand's founding, during the CLF research period. The inside of the pot and other items remain the original 1980 version.
The 1980 L-1000 was handmade at the CLF Research workshop in California, and uses parts that were directly designed and supervised by Leo himself. The serial number "B-00xxxx" has only been produced in a very short period of time, and its current number is said to be extremely small.
The idea of Leo at the time is abundantly incorporated, including a body design that follows the tradition of the fender-based system of the past, practical and original hardware, and electronics that create a wide variety of tone variations.
The body is thought to be swamp ash and features a maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard 21F.The hardware is also carefully crafted, including medium jumbo frets and G&L's unique bridges and pegs. The pickup is equipped with a "G&L Magnetic Field Design" humbucker. It has a range and density that sets it apart from conventional passive pickups, and is also equipped with a three-mode switch including the legendary "OMG" mode.
It can be switched between Parallel mode, Split/Single Coil mode, and OMG mode (0.1μF capacitor added to one coil to emphasize bass).Other controls are simple: Volume, Treble and Base.
The bass, also known as "Wunk," which cannot be experienced with the "L-2000," has some enthusiastic fans, as it has a texture unique to the "L-1000" of this period. The ultra-thin neck lacquer and bullet truss rod design, which are only used in the very early stages, are also extremely rare. This is clearly different from mass-produced aircraft since 1981, and is a key point that supports the value of collector's grades.
This is rarely available on the market, so it can be said to be a historical witness that goes beyond just vintage and intersects innovation and tradition. This is a highly recommended piece for both performers and collectors.
